Update....

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers....they are working!

We received a call shortly before 1p this afternoon with a report that Mason is "doing better". He is breathing a little more on his own...doing more work on his own than the vent is...which is good. He is also on IV abx for pneumonia (which is the "spot" on his lung from aspirating). He remains intubated and on the vent in ICU.

They believe he aspirated and then went into respiratory distress. Apparently he started to turn blue and have difficulty breathing about an hour after one of his feedings yesterday evening.

They are continuing to monitor him and do some more tests. If he continues to improve, they hope to get him off the vent tomorrow or Thursday. We did learn that his wt is approximately 2.5 kg (or 5.5 lbs). Once he is weaned from the vent, extubated and stable, they can move him to the pediatric floor.

A nanny from the orphanage has been with him since yesterday...the same one without any break. We praise God for her compassion and for being there when we can't. How do you ever thank somebody for being there to advocate and care for your child in your absence?

Please continue to pray for Mason's health and a full recovery, the staff at the children's home, the hospital staff caring for Mason and for the nanny staying with him. Glory to God for the promising news we have received.

Prayer Request...

We are asking for your prayers....
Last night @ 1015pm we received a call from our adoption consultant. She informed us that Mason was hospitalized b/c he was having difficulty breathing. While at the hospital he actually stopped breathing, so they had to intubate him. We were also told they planned to transfer him to a larger hospital.

We received another call at 0215 letting us know that he had arrived to another hospital, about an hour away from the orphanage. At 7 am this morning we were updated again....praise God he survived the night. He is currently sedated, remains intubated and is on a vent. They opted to sedate him during the night b/c he was so tired....up until that point he had still been making attempts to breathe on his own.

A diagnosis is unknown at this time. I have heard speculations ranging from a virus, heart condition, pneumonia to rsv. I do know he had not been sick at all....this was fairly sudden in onset. When he arrived at the larger hospital they did a chest xray, which showed a "spot". Hopefully they will do another CXR this am and we can get some insight as to what may be going on.

Please keep our son in your thoughts and prayers today. Also pray that the Doctors & Nurses caring for him are filled with compassion and skill. We feel so helpless right now....he is so far away....and so little.

The proof is in the closet....

Since receiving the referral I have been talking nonstop about Mason and showing his picture off to anyone willing to give me a moment of their time!

In my previous post I mentioned the retail therapy I have been undergoing. You may have asked yourself....is she still indulging? The answer would be YES! I binge-shopped over the weekend (to my hubby...honey, it was all on sale....I swear!). I am proud to say I have NOT purchased anything for Mason since Saturday! (the proof of my weakness is in the attached picture and in the nursery closet!)

Oh...dang, I just remembered I bought a "designer" travel baby wipe case this morning off of ebay. Oh well, I went a couple of days in a row without indulging....which is really good for me!

Not a lot of new information to pass on at this time. We are awaiting DNA authorization, testing and results. Once the results are in (and it's a match) we would be able to go on a visit trip. As far as any speculation as to when we may have Mason home forever....I hate to even say. The process can be very time consuming with unexpected delays. I would venture to guess a minimum of 6 months from date of referral. I still pray it will be sooner, rather than later.

I did find out that another local family is going to be able to go pick up their 5th child from the children's home very soon. I have asked them to give Mason some one on one snuggle time on my behalf...they have graciously offered to snap photos of him for me too! I crave any little bit of info I can get on Mason....too bad they won't let me have a web-cam on his crib. Can you even imagine if they would allow such a thing....I would never leave my computer, let alone my house!!!

Please continue to keep our son, the children's home, our son's biological mom and us in your prayers! Pray for God's protection of our case....and for a speedy processing without delays! Satan stay away!

God Bless!

Health Report & Shopping....

We received our first health report today....it was actually completed on 07/08/07, but we just received a copy of it today. Mason has been declared physically, mentally and neurologically "fine". They plan to start his immunizations per protocol.

I have cried pretty much every single day since receiving the referral on 07/07/07....tears of joy, tears of happiness, tears because I want to see him, tears because I want to hold him, tears because I hope he is safe.....the list goes on!! What it boils down to is this: I need to love on my baby right now!! This further translates into: We are going to have to work it into our schedule and budget to do a visit trip....soon!

When we started this journey we agreed not to take any visit trips....only the pickup trip (for the sake of $$$ and vacation time). Well, within 2 days of receiving the referral I told mu hubby there was absolutely no way I could possibly wait....imagine that!

Our agency has advised us not to do any visit trips until after the DNA testing has been completed and reviewed. Our next big step in this process is waiting on the DNA test and Social Work Interview. The DNA test is a requirement of the US Embassy....the Social Work Interview is done on the Guat side with a SW there and Mason's bio-mom. According to our agency the DNA test is typically completed with a final report approx. 3-4 weeks after accepting the referral (which we did on 07/09/07.

Have I mentioned that I recently turned to therapeutic shopping to help relieve some of my anxiety and stress?? It really has worked wonders for me. Let's just say that Mason's cute little wardrobe is almost complete for next summer...God Bless Sales! I really mean this....I have loaded up! I also indulged in some items for his immediate enjoyment....they have been lovingly packaged and sent his way. I have attached a picture of the items I sent in his care package.

Please continue to pray for the following:

* Mason's safety & health.

* The caregivers at the orphanage- may their hearts be filled with love & compassion for the waiting children they are caring for.

*Mason's biological mother- pray that she has the strength and courage to find peace in her decision. Pray that she find herself content in knowing that Mason will soon be joining his forever family...who will love and provide for him always.

*Pray for God's protection of our case/file. Pray for a speedy processing and no delays!

We will continue to keep you updated!

It's a Boy!!

After much paperwork we have finally received a referral....

Our son was born on 07/05/07….we received the call with an official referral on 07/07/07. His birth name is Cristian Alexander. We had our hearts set on the name "Mason" for a boy. We now need to decide on his middle name.

We received word of his safe arrival to the orphanage on 07/09/07. There are still so many unknown details…and a journey ahead of us. There is still some risk involved, as there would be with any adoption. I am going to try and post the link to a "timeline" to give you an idea of the hoops and hurdles that are still ahead.

We ask that you pray for our son’s safety and that his basic needs are being met. Please pray that we have a speedy processing time without roadblocks! We also ask for prayers for his birthmother….this surely was a heart-wrenching experience for her.

Thank you for listening to me babble endlessly about this….you can look forward to many more stories and probably a lot of tears. Our hearts are already breaking because we want to see and hold him desperately!

We just have to put this entire process into God’s hands and know this process will occur in His timing…which is always perfect!

His measurements are as follows:
Weight: 5 lbs
Height:19 inches long
Head Circumference: 12 inches
Foot: 3.3 inches
